Cranberry juice is an excellent antioxidant, containing large amounts of bacteria-fighting proanthocyanidins and other phytonutrients that are able to protect against various types of cancers as well as heart disease. Due to its attractive taste, raw cranberry juice is an excellent addition to many recipes, but the health benefits are most commonly associated with treating urinary tract infections, caused by bacteria in the uterus and the bladder. Because of its bacteria-inhibiting power, cranberry juice can also inhibit or assuage the symptoms of gum disease and reduce the amount of dental plaque build-up. Finally, some medical experts believe that the quinic acid that is fairly abundant in cranberries may assist in the prevention of kidney stones.
